(30 April 2021) Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (‘LPCUWC’), in collaboration with Rotary District 3450 & CLP Innovation, hosted two virtual educational programmes for secondary school students this April, with the core aim of developing perspective, personal initiative and soft skills among a budding generation of global citizens.
April’s programmes offered an experiential exploration of diversity and sustainability as they apply to participants’ everyday lives, with a view to empowering students towards introspection and a more active role in driving change.
On 3-4 April, LPCUWC and Rotary District 3450 jointly hosted a virtual Peace Camp. This was successfully conducted on the Remo platform, with 124 participants taking part over the two days. Joining local students were participants from Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sudan and the Philippines. Group facilitators, consisting of LPCUWC students and alumni as well as external volunteers from Rotary/Rotaract Clubs of Hong Kong, led participants through a series of small-group games, simulations and discussions on conflict management, diversity and cultural understanding. LPCUWC’s Initiative for Peace student group planned the entire programme to help participants appreciate the value of difference in human society.
On 10 April, LPCUWC hosted 30 participants at Virtual Green Day 2021. Local students were joined by participants from Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Russia, Sudan and the Philippines. This day camp, planned by the College’s Green Pioneers for Sustainability student group, focused on everyday methods to reduce our individual carbon emissions. Participants were also assigned a case study: energy consumption data from a classroom setting was analysed before block coding was utilized to simulate improved energy efficiency. Special thanks must be given to Smart Energy Connect (SEC) from CLP Innovation for providing technical training and consultation as well as a guest speaker who educated participants on SEC’s work towards carbon neutrality.

Upcoming event: Youth Design Thinking Bootcamp
The Youth Design Thinking Bootcamp is scheduled for the weekend of 5-6 June, during which several teams of students from secondary schools around the world will embark on an innovative journey towards social impact. Each team will innovate solutions for a given social issue and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund.

(2021年4月30日) 香港李寶椿聯合世界書院 (下稱「書院」) 分別與國際扶輪第3450地區(Rotary District 3450) 和CLP Innovation 合作，於今年四月為中學生舉辦了兩項虛擬教育活動，旨在拓展新世代世界公民的視野，同時培養他們的自發性和軟技能。活動內容有關多元共融和可持續發展，旨在啟發學生於日常生活中增強自省能力，並以更積極的態度推動改變。
多元共融方面，書院與國際扶輪第3450地區於四月三日至四日在Remo網上平台合辦了虛擬和平營 (Peace Camp)，共有124位參加者。由書院學生與校友以及扶輪社/扶輪青年服務社的義工主持。主持人帶領由本地學生和來自印尼、蒙古、緬甸、新加坡、蘇丹和菲律賓的參加者所組成之小組，進行一系列有關衝突管理和多元社會的小組遊戲、模擬體驗和討論。整個計畫由書院 Initiative for Peace 學生小組策劃，让參加者能以欣賞角度看待彼此之間的差異。

青少年思考設計訓練營將於六月五至六日舉行。屆時各支來自世界各地、不同級別的中學生所組成之隊伍將會一起踏上社會創新之旅。團隊們將以他們解決指定社會問題的創新構思，去打動由阿里巴巴創業者基金 (Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund) 所組成之評審團。

Keeping the campus COVID-19 free is a priority of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong. This is a priority that requires cooperation, support and a collective effort from all members of the College community.
As of this issuance, there is none among our staff or students who has been reported to have been infected with COVID-19.
The College continues to strictly enforce health measures across the campus, including regular temperature checks, wearing of masks within the Academic Block, regular cleaning and sanitisation of both residential and common areas, and implementation of social distancing measures in seating arrangements.
Being a residential community with 250 students from 80 countries, open communication and regular coordination are also key in ensuring that our students and their parents are not only assured but are well-informed of initiatives of the College in maintaining health and wellness on campus. Public advisories are also issued on the College website to keep the public in the loop.
As College Year 2020/2021 draws near, the College has written to all students and their parents on arrangements covering travel, mandatory 14-day quarantine, and information on temporary hotel provisions and a dedicated team to handle concerns related to arrivals. Teachers are also prepared to implement blended learning to provide unhampered learning opportunities to those who may not yet be able to join the campus due to travel restrictions at or involving their home countries.

Frequently Asked Questions on Arrival Arrangements for 2020/2021

1. When should I book my flight?
Please do not book your flight until you have received your newly applied/renewed Hong Kong student visa. If possible, we suggest that you book for a flight that allows for flexible change of dates and cancellation.
2. How long is the visa application period? When will I know the result?
The College is working very closely with the Immigration Department for your visa applications and the process can take up to 10 weeks. Once we have received your student visa, we will send you a separate letter informing you of the next steps. We will send you your student visa by courier.
3. Where will I undertake the mandatory 14-day quarantine?
For those eligible for a home-based quarantine, the College has arranged for you to stay ata hotel during your mandatory 14-day quarantine under a single-occupancy arrangement. Your room comes with all basic amenities, including free 24-hour WiFi, a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the duration of your stay will also be provided, and snacks will be made available to you in your room.
For those traveling from countries such as Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and South Africa that have a relatively low testing rate per capita, the Department of Health will arrange for them to complete their 14-day compulsory quarantine at a government-designated quarantine centre after collecting their deep throat saliva samples upon arrival. Considering the issue of capacity at government-managed quarantine centres, the Hong Kong government will adopt a risk-based approach to decide which groups merit a stay in the centres. The college will not have any staff at these centres.
The currently operating government-managed quarantine centres are Chun Yeung Estate in Fo Tan and JPC Permanent Activity Centre and Integrated Youth Training Camp in Pat Heung, Yuen Long and Chai Wan Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village.
Quarantine centres will provide the confinees with meals and essential daily personal necessities. WiFi cards for Internet connection can be provided if necessary. During the stay, healthcare workers would assess health conditions of confinees and refer them to hospital for management if needed.
4. Can I choose another hotel where I can do my quarantine?
The College would prefer you to stay at the designated hotel. Students under the age of 18 cannot by law book or reside at a hotel by themselves. For those 18 and above: If you wish to choose another hotel, the College cannot support transportation to the hotel and eventually to the campus upon completion of quarantine. Staff assignments have also been made, therefore, there is no assurance of supervision when you stay at another hotel.
5. I have family or friends in Hong Kong where I can stay for my quarantine. Can I stay with them?
Yes, as long as you meet the quarantine requirements set up by the Hong Kong Government and your host family takes full responsibility for you until you can join the College. 6. What if there is a delay in the visa application process and/or flight arrangement and I won’t be able to arrive in Hong Kong on the said date?
The College will be supporting all students who are delayed through blended learning until you can arrive on campus safely. The College is ready to welcome students in different batches throughout the term.
7. What happens if I decide not to travel to Hong Kong?
The College would prefer (if you are able) to be on campus. However, if you are unable to get a flight or your visa is not issued then the College will support you through blended learning. Unfortunately we anticipate there will be some students who will not be able to join us immediately and we will be able to provide distant academic support.

9. What if I'm tested positive at the Hong Kong Airport?
If you test positive, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) will notify you as early as possible and arrange for admission to a public hospital for treatment. On receiving notification of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the CHP will conduct epidemiological investigation and contact tracing. Quarantine will be arranged for close contacts while medical surveillance will be arranged for other contacts.
Please update the College immediately of the status of your deep throat saliva test.
10. Can my parents accompany me to Hong Kong and will the College provide quarantine arrangements for them too?
Your parents will not be able to accompany you to Hong Kong unless they have a valid visa to enter Hong Kong. The Hong Kong border is currently open only to Hong Kong residents and only students with a valid student visa will be considered Hong Kong residents.
If your parents have the valid visa to enter Hong Kong and would like to quarantine in the same hotel, your parents will need to settle a corresponding amount to cover their lodging and meals, if they intend to take the meal package the College has secured for you. 11. What will I do during the quarantine?
You need to be prepared with activities you can do in your room for 14 days. You have access to 24-hours WiFi. The College will be in contact with you at least once a day.
12. I am a Hong Kong ID holder / Hong Kong dependent visa holder but I am currently stationed abroad. Will the College provide quarantine arrangements for me too?
The quarantine arrangements by the College are prioritised for overseas students who require a student visa to enter Hong Kong. If you hold a Hong Kong permanent ID or a Hong Kong dependent visa, please arrange for your own place to stay for your mandatory 14-day quarantine. 13. Who should I contact in case there is an emergency?
You will be provided with an emergency contact number of a person who will be based in your hotel and of a College representative who will oversee the quarantine requirements of all arriving overseas students.
14. What if the Hong Kong government does not allow home-based quarantine to citizens of my country?
The Hong Kong government adopts a risk based approach in deciding whether an inbound traveller will be eligible for home-based quarantine or a government-arranged quarantine.
For those eligible for a home-based quarantine, the College will provide a hotel for you where you can undertake your 14-day mandatory quarantine.

15. If the current quarantine policy extends through the year, would I be allowed to return home for Winter Break?
If the current quarantine policy (mandatory 14-day quarantine for all inbound travellers) extends until December 2020, all students would be strongly recommended to stay in Hong Kong during the winter break and not travel home. If you wish to return home for the holidays, you will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine and adhere to related quarantine guidelines imposed by the Hong Kong government at that time and at your own expense. The College will remain open during the break.
