Academics form one of the three pillars of education at LPCUWC. The academic programme at LPCUWC is shaped by the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB).

The IB Diploma is an academically challenging and balanced pre-university programme that prepares students for success in university and beyond. UWC played a leading role in its creation and continues to influence its development, addressing the intellectual, social, physical, ethical development of the student.

To obtain an IB Diploma, students need to take one subject from each of the six subject groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. 

In addition to the six subjects, all candidates must fulfill three Core requirements.

• Theory of Knowledge – a course designed to encourage students to reflect on the nature of knowledge by critically examining different ways of knowing and kinds of knowledge
• Extended Essay – a piece of personal research of approximately 4,000 words
• Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) – activities organized under the Quan Cai program at LPCUWC with reflections on the experiences in a deliberate and structured manner

The Diploma is scored out of 45 points. Each subject is scored out of a maximum score of seven, with three additional points available for the Core. 24 points are required to gain the Diploma. 

The IB is excellent preparation for the rigours of universities across the world, and LPCUWC graduates gain access to a wide range of universities and courses.
